Due to unresolved labour issue, the Senior Staff Association Of Nigeria Polytechnic, (SSANIP), has directed its members at the Federal Polytechnic Oil and Gas Ekowe, Bayelsa State, to embark on an indefinite industrial action over failure of the institution’s management to remits SSANIP dues from the month of January 2025.
In a statement signed by SSANIP Assistant National Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Enyiegor, the body ordered the unions’ leaders to mobilize members to embark on an indefinite strike action with immediate effect.
The statement states that despite several conciliatory efforts by the national body, through written communications, scheduled meetings by stakeholders, and personal interactions between union leaders at the national level and members of the Polytechnic Management team to resolve the matter amicably without disrupting the system, the Management has remained adamant. It states:
“I write on behalf of NEC to formally direct you to mobilize your congress members to embark on an indefinite strike action with immediate effect, following your Management’s persistent refusal to revert the unilateral directive of suspending the lawful deduction of union dues.
“Instead of aligning with prescribed obligations,they have continued to incite stakeholders against the principles of industrial harmony.
“Such actions constitute a direct violation of the labour laws ard threatens the collective interest and operational stability of our union.This display of arrogance by your Management, undermines the spirit of dialogue and mutual respect among critical stakeholders.
Consequently, you are hereby instructed to convene an emergency congress and commence strike action until further notice. This directive remains in force until your management remits SSANIP dues from the month of January through April 2025”, the statement directed.
SSANIP maintained that if the industrial action fails to address the issue, necessary further actions would be taken.
