Governor Abdulrazaq Expresses Commitment To Strengthen Civil Service

The 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, held at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin, recorded a large turnout of members from the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC in the state.
In his address, the State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Murtala Olayinka, commended the state government for implementing the ₦77,000 minimum wage for its workers.
He stated that the council remained committed to constructive engagement and dialogue with the government to address the economic challenges confronting its members.
Comrade Olayinka, however, expressed concern over the rising cost of living, housing issues, access to healthcare, and job security, which have negatively impacted the quality of life for many workers.
He appealed for prompt attention to the issue of minimum wage consequential adjustment for pensioners and a lasting solution to the problem of erratic power supply across the country.
On his part, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Abdulrahman Onikijipa, urged the state government to prioritize workers’ welfare, security, and the provision of adequate and clean water for the populace.
The union presented several demands, including the payment of outstanding 2023 financial benefits to beneficiaries of promoted officers, the release of 2024 promotion letters and financial benefits to deserving officers, and capacity-building initiatives through training and retraining of workers.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has said his administration is committed to building a state where workers thrive, decent jobs are created, and every sector empowered to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state .
Governor AbdulRazaq in his message on the occasion of the 2025 International Workers’ Day, in Ilorin, extend warm greetings to men and women of both the public and private sectors whose efforts power the economy and shape the future of the society.
The Governor, represented by his Senior Adviser and Counselor, Alhaji Saadu Salaudeen, and the Speaker of the State Assembly, Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu appreciated the immense contributions of the workers across all sectors for their dedication, resilience, and skills which makes them the pillars of growth and development.
The Governor reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to implement policies that strengthen the civil service, grow the economy, attract investments, and expand job opportunities.
He explained that through targeted infrastructural and socioeconomic initiatives, the administration has maintained financial stability, ensured timely salary payments, supported entrepreneurship, and provided social safety nets.
Governor AbdulRazaq Urged the workers to embrace change, promote excellence, and prepare for the opportunities of tomorrow.
