Truck Drivers Jailed for Illegal Possession of Minerals in Ilorin

Two truck drivers, Abdulkareem Hussaini and Aliyu Ladan, have been sentenced to one-year imprisonment each for unlawful possession of solid minerals. 

According to a statement by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, delivered the judgment on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

The drivers were arraigned by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on one-count separate charges. 

They pleaded guilty to possessing 35 tons and 30 tons of minerals without lawful authority, respectively.

The court sentenced them to 12 months in prison with an option of a N1 million fine each, with the judge also ordering the forfeiture of the recovered minerals to the Federal Government.

The EFCC had charged the drivers to court after finding them with large quantities of minerals without valid authorization, violating Section 1(8)(b) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, 1984.
