An undergraduate Student of University of Ilorin, Aliyu Rahmah, has gone viral across social media platforms after publicly declaring her intention to contest for the position of National President of the Ilorin Emirate Students’ Union (IESU), National Headquarters.
Rahma’s campaign posters, seen on Saturday evening through her verified Facebook page, have sparked discussions online.
Rahmah’s decision is being celebrated as a bold and historic move, as the position has traditionally been held by male leaders. Critics have recently turned this into a widely debating issue, with the stand that it has never happened in this history, Even though it’s constitutional, It was never in the custom of Ilorin Emirates, electing a female as their leader.
The position has historically been dominated by male candidates for decades. Rahmah’s bold step has been hailed as a courageous move that could potentially change the narrative and break longstanding gender barriers within the union’s leadership structure
