A secondary school student was reportedly killed by police officers in Alaakia, Ibadan on Tuesday morning. The student, who is a candidate in the ongoing WAEC examination for SS3 students, was shot on his way to school to write today’s paper.
According to eyewitnesses, the student was with his father and sibling, heading to the exam center near Gbagi Market, when police officers reportedly opened fire during a pursuit of a suspect. One of the bullets hit the student, killing him instantly. He was rushed to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Reports says the student was killed by police officers who opened fire while in pursuit of a Hilux vehicle.
“Unfortunately, a stray bullet struck the student, who was in his father’s car, resulting in his death. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for immediate investigation into the actions,” the report noted.
This incident has sparked outrage across the community. Protesters gathered at the Oyo State Government Secretariat, demanding justice and accountability.
The Oyo State Police Command has yet to issue a formal statement, and the silence is only fueling more anger and pain among citizens.
