Popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has been detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos, over his alleged involvement in a leadership tussle within the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
Ruggedman and three others were said to have arraigned at the Yaba Magistrate Court over allegations of burglary and theft of $130,000 from the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) secretariat in Lekki
The charges include conspiracy, breaking and entry, and cybercrimes, with more amendments expected.
The suspects reportedly broke into PMAN’s office during President Pretty Okafor’s trip abroad in 2024 and attempted to suspend him unlawfully.
They allegedly stole cash and laptops and created a parallel #PMAN leadership via a questionable court judgment.
Despite warnings from police authorities, they continued to occupy the premises, prompting their arrest.
The police have video and documentary evidence, and Ruggedman is currently in custody, while others like Sunny Neji remain at large.
