Ipee Progressive Union, IPU, under the leadership of Mr. Simeon Ayodele Ogunsola has clarified that Poro land in the axis of Ori – Ota , Ipee, in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State is an integral part of Ipee community.
In a statement issued by the IPU National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ibrahim Toyin, the union maintained that without prejudice to all land cases in the axis the claim made by Offa Descendants Union, ODU, regarding the land is unfounded.
IPU congratulated the people of Offa community for securing a Federal Government’s housing estate, and advised the community to site the project in areas within the community land without encroachment, so as to maintain the existing peace and harmony.
The IPU acknowledged the instances, where Ipee community has, in the interest of peaceful coexistence, made concessions regarding land to Offa , the union urged the people to recognize the gesture as a commitment to good neighborliness, not weaknesses.
The statement emphasized that the families cited in the ODU bulletin have no historical claim to the land, having only been granted land for agricultural purposes by Ipee people as found in the court judgement referred to in the bulletin.
The statement urged all individuals and associations from Offa to cease making claims to Poro land or any other land within Ipee.
Meanwhile, the Baale of Oke – Agun, Hon. Sarafadeen Rotimi Atoyebi explained that when Okin High School was about to be created in 1980, both Igosun and Ipee communities jointly sued Offa during the reign of Oba Lawal Adeshina which was dragged from the High Court to the Appeal court with the judgement that favours Offa.
