By: Mercy Folounsho Kwara State Government has alerted farmers and residents in flood-prone communities to take urgent precautionary measures to save their investments In a statement the spokesperson of the state Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ashaolu Omotola says, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), forecasts possible flooding in parts of Kwara State between 7th and 21st August, this year. According to it the Agency identified several communities in the State among 832 nationwide locations at risk of flooding during this period. It says the anticipated flooding could disrupt transportation routes and threaten farmlands, crops, and livestock. The statement cautions that flooding poses a significant risk to agricultural production and food security across the State. It advises farmers to harvest ready crops promptly, relocate livestock, farm machinery, and inputs to safer, elevated areas, and ensure proper maintenance of drainage channels on their farms to allow free flow of water.
