Popular Musician Bags FG appointment, Days after Air clash

The Federal Government has appointed Fuji Musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as KWAM 1,as an ambassador to promote proper airport security procedures.

The appointment follows his recent encounter with officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo declared the decision on Wednesday while addressing to recent cases of unruly behavior at Airport.

Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had decreased the artist’s initial six months flight ban to one month and would collaborate with him to create awareness on appropriate conducts in aviation spaces, he said.

Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will oversee the engagement process.

The move comes after KWAM 1 publicly apologized for his role in August 5 incident when he allegedly obstructed a ValueJet aircraft from moving.

Meanwhile, the authorities had accused him of carrying a flask suspected to contain alcohol spilling its content on security personnel, and walking onto the tarmac in breach of safety regulations.

Following his apology, the NCAA also agreed to withdraw a criminal complaint earlier filed with the police.

Keyamo however, elucidated that the leniency was granted after appeals from concerned individuals and public show of remorse from the musician while stressing that the government remains committed to enforcing aviation safety rules.
