By Mercy Folounsho The Abia State Government has dismissed six civil servants in the state over alleged involvement in salary fraud. A statement by the Chairman, Civil Service Commission in the state, Pastor Eno Jerry-Eze explained that the six civil servants were from the state Ministry of Justice. The statement says their dismissal followed their indictment in a salary padding scheme discovered during an internal audit and administrative inquiry. It notes that the affected officers were found to have engaged in the manipulation of payroll systems, resulting in the unlawful receipt of excess salaries over a sustained period. According to the statement, the officers include a Principal Accountant on Grade Level 12, a Senior Accountant on Grade Level 10 and a Chief Executive Officer Accounts on Grade Level 14. Others are an Assistant Chief Executive Officer Accounts on Grade Level 13, a Principal Executive Officer, Accounts on Grade Level 12 and a Senior Executive Officer, General Duties on Grade Level 09. The statement emphasizes that the disciplinary action followed a detailed investigations by the Abia State Civil Service Commission stressing that those indicted and dismissed will be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
