NNPCL peduces petrol price to ₦815 per litre

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has again reduced the pump price of premium motor spirit, selling petrol at ₦815 per litre across its retail outlets in Abuja.

A survey conducted on Monday morning confirmed that the new price reflects a ₦20 reduction from the previous rate of ₦835 per litre. The adjustment has already taken effect at several NNPCL filling stations, including those located in Wuse Zones 4 and 6, along the Keffi–Abuja Road, and on the Kubwa Expressway.

According to DAILY POST, attendant at one of the NNPCL outlets, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the new price was implemented on Sunday evening. According to the source, the adjustment followed internal directives from the company amid ongoing competition in the downstream petroleum sector.

Despite the reduction, NNPCL petrol remains more expensive than fuel sold at MRS filling stations supplied by the Dangote Refinery, where petrol is currently dispensed at ₦739 per litre nationwide. The price difference stands at ₦79 per litre, maintaining a competitive gap between both suppliers.

The latest cut comes less than a month after NNPCL reduced petrol prices by ₦80 on December 19, 2025. That earlier adjustment brought the pump price down to ₦835 per litre and was widely linked to market pressure following Dangote Refinery’s reduction of its gantry price to ₦699 per litre.

Industry observers note that the successive price reductions reflect an intensifying price competition among oil marketers as the deregulated fuel market adjusts to increased domestic refining capacity. Motorists in Abuja welcomed the latest cut, expressing hope for further reductions in the coming weeks.

NNPCL has yet to issue an official statement on whether the new price will be extended uniformly across all states or reviewed again in response to market dynamics.
