President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School. The appointment was announced on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, the appointment takes effect from January 10, 2026, and will run for a four-year term. Dr Odusote will become the first female Director-General of the Nigerian Law School since the institution was established in 1962. She succeeds Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9, 2026, after serving the maximum of eight years. Before her appointment, Odusote was the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus. She is 54 years old. Odusote obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later earned a Master of Laws degree from the same institution, with specialisation in company and commercial law. She also holds a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, where her research focused on public law and the administration of justice. She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has served in several leadership roles within the institution. These include Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. During her academic career, Odusote was a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom. She has published widely in local and international law journals and presented papers at various legal education conferences. She has also served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association. As Director-General, Odusote will oversee academic activities, administration, and policy direction across all campuses of the Nigerian Law School. She will also serve as the key link between the school, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
