The Nigerian Army’s 2 Brigade in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has said it is probing the death of a 13-year-old boy allegedly shot by a soldier in Ette, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, and warned the public against commenting in ways that could undermine the investigation. In a statement issued on Thursday by Capt. Lawal Muhammad, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 2 Brigade, the military said no conclusion has been reached in the matter, which occurred on January 1, 2026. The boy, identified as Timothy Daniel, was allegedly shot dead by a soldier attached to Sterling Petrochemical and Fertiliser Limited. Reports said the incident happened when Timothy reportedly tried to stop the soldier from making sexual advances toward his 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel. Muhammad said the Army launched an investigation in line with standard procedures to establish the facts and circumstances of the incident. He urged the public to refrain from speculation or commentary that could prejudice the ongoing probe. “The investigation is currently ongoing, and no findings or conclusions have been reached at this stage,” the brigade’s statement said. “The outcome will be made public upon its conclusion, in accordance with extant laws and regulations.” Capt. Muhammad extended the Army’s sympathy and condolences to the family of the deceased and thanked the public for cooperation and understanding. He reiterated the Army’s commitment to professionalism, strict adherence to rules of engagement, and accountability in the conduct of its personnel. “The Nigerian Army expresses its sincere sympathy and condolences to the family and loved ones of Timothy Daniel and commiserates with them over their loss,” the statement added.
