The Federal Government, through the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure,NASENI, and the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer, PICTT, has launched the second phase of the “Developing Engineering Leaders Through Her” (DELT-Her) program.
The initiative seeks to bridge the significant gender gap in Nigeria’s engineering sector, where women currently represent only about 5% of professionals, compared to the global average of 28% .
The DELT-Her program offers a platform for Nigerian girls and women in sciences, especially in engineering, to present innovative ideas for potential funding and mentorship.
The program aims to double the number of female engineers in Nigeria over the next five years by supporting women-led engineering startups and fostering a more inclusive industry.
The Chairman Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer, Dr. Mohammed Dahiru emphasized the need for opportunities to give Women the enabling environment to contribute meaningfully to developmental projects in the society.
The Vice Chairman, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, Mr. Khalil Halilu stated that the Agency would do all it could to support women innovation for rapid development.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on NASENI, Francis Onyebuchi stressed the multifunctional capabilities of women in the society hence the need to support the initiative to bridge the gender inequality in technology.
The Minister of Women Affairs represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Mariam Keshinro who commended the initiative said the ministry had already put in place a roadmap for women inclusiveness in developmental technology.
Meanwhile, the developer of the website for the call application Mr. Andy Madaki emphasized that the application is free and open to only the female gender.
