The Aláke of Egbaland,His Royal Highness Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo PhD, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the Nigeria forest Security Service Bill Into law whenever the Bill is transmitted to him by the National Assembly.
Oba Aremu Gbadebo made the appeal when he receive in his palace the Commander General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, NFSS, Dr Joshua Wole Osatimehin and his team who has gone to brief the Traditional Ruler on the achievements of NFSS in combating insecurity in Nigeria’s forested region
The Traditional Ruler who commended President Bola Tinubu for his approval on the establishment of Forest Guards said constitutional recognition of NFSS through assent to its Bill would go a long way in actualizing the establishment of the Forest Guards.
According to Oba Aremu Gbadebo, given constitutional recognition to NFSS is long overdue towards tackling the ugly activities of kidnappers, bandits and terrorists who take advantage of the nation’s forests in perpetrating their evil acts.
While commending the leadership roles of Dr Joshua Wole Osatimehin as the Commander General of NFSS for about ten years now, the Traditional Ruler advised him not to relent in complimenting the efforts of formal security agencies in safeguarding lives and property at the grassroots
The Alake of Egbaland also used the opportunity to commend the two chambers of the National Assembly for passing the NFSS Bill.
Earlier, the Commander General of NFSS, Dr Joshua Wole Osatimehin said he was in the palace with his team to brief the Traditional Ruler on the achievements of the Service since inception ten years ago
Dr. Osatimehin who thanked the Alake of Egbaland for the warm reception solicited his support and that of other Royal Fathers in Nigeria towards ensuring that NFSS is integrated into the nation’s security apparatus through the establishment of Forest Guards.
He informed the Royal Father that NFSS is already on ground in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT as well as in all the 774 Local Government Areas in the country.
The Commander General of NFSS also informed the Alake of Egbaland that his officers and men had been trained by the Police, Nigeria Army, NSCDC and other security agencies within and outside Nigeria hence the need for the Federal Government to endorse the Service for the Forest Guards initiative.
Dr Joshua Osatimehin added that the move would go a long way in actualizing the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu in the area of securing the lives and property of Nigerians which is the primary objective of any Government.
