President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed his directive to Nigeria’s security chiefs to restore peace and stability in Benue State following fresh reprisal attacks that claimed multiple lives.
According to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President gave the directive in response to the latest outbreak of violence, leading to the deployment of intelligence operatives, police, and military personnel to the state to coordinate security operations and restore order.
The President also tasked the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, to immediately convene reconciliation meetings among farmers, herders, and local communities to end bloodshed and fostering peaceful coexistence.
Describing the renewed violence as inhuman and anti-progress, President Tinubu condemned the actions of individuals and leaders whose inflammatory remarks continue to heighten tensions and provoke reprisals. He urged political and community leaders to act responsibly and prevent further provocations.
The President warned that the killings must not continue and called for the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators on all sides of the conflict.
He urged Governor Alia to rise above political divisions and lead a genuine process of dialogue and reconciliation, stressing that lasting peace is possible when leaders embrace fairness, openness, and justice.
