President Bola Tinubu has requested for a parcel of land in Benue State for the Federal Government to establish a ranch as part of efforts to bring lasting solutions to the insecurity being experienced in the State.
President Tinubu who made the pronouncement during a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders in Makurdi, the State capital, also constituted a peace committee of leaders in the State to work out modalities that would end the incessant attacks.
The committee comprising former Governors of the State, the Tov Tiv, Orchivirigh Professor James Ayatse and Och’Idoma, Agabaidu John Elaigwu is to meet him in Abuja to deliberate on the issues.
The President said he was ready to invest in the peace process and convert the tragedy that has befallen the State into prosperity.
While sympathizing with the Benue State Government and the entire people of the State over the attacks by armed herdsmen, President Tinubu directed Security Chiefs to step up action by evolving more strategies to get the killers.
Governor Hyacinth Alia appreciated the President for the visit and appealed for the establishment of community support for fund to cater for the well-being of the displaced population and State Police to combat the criminals causing mayhem on the citizens.
Tor Tiv, Orchivirigh Professor James Ayatse said the current situation was not farmer- herder clashes but a calculated and coordinated plan to cause genocide and grab available land and appealed to the President to sustain efforts to bring the situation to an end.
