Reps publishes tax reform laws to clear public doubts

The National Assembly has released the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of four major tax reform Acts recently signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, following public concerns over alleged discrepancies in the documents.

The release was announced on Friday by the House of Representatives Spokesman, Akin Rotimi. He said the action was directed by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.

According to Rotimi, the decision became necessary after unauthorised and misleading versions of the tax laws began circulating in the public space. These versions raised concerns about possible alterations to the Acts already signed into law.

He explained that the released documents include the endorsement and assent pages personally signed by President Tinubu. The move, he said, is aimed at restoring clarity, eliminating doubts, and safeguarding the credibility of the legislative process.

The four Acts released are the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; the National Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025; and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act, 2025.

Rotimi stressed that only the certified and officially released copies should be regarded as the authentic tax laws of the country. He noted that the National Assembly remains committed to protecting the sanctity of its legislative duties.

He disclosed that the House became aware of the discrepancies after a lawmaker raised the matter on a point of privilege. Following this, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen ordered an internal verification and the immediate release of the certified documents.

Rotimi added that the tax reform process involved wide consultations, committee reviews, and plenary debates to ensure fairness and compliance with constitutional procedures.

He said the four Acts form the foundation of Nigeria’s current tax reform framework, aimed at improving revenue administration, reducing inefficiencies, and strengthening fiscal coordination nationwide.
