The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the burning of a house belonging to a traditional religion practitioner in Ilorin. The arrests followed investigations into a fire incident at the Isale Koko area of the state capital, which police suspect was an act of arson linked to religious intolerance. The incident came to public attention after a video of the burnt house circulated on social media. In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that the command was aware of the video and had launched a full investigation into the incident. According to the police, the case was reported on January 2, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m., when the owner of the house, Mrs. T.A. Olorisha, reported that her residence had been set on fire by unknown persons. The police said the fire occurred on January 1, 2026, around 7:00 p.m., while the complainant was away. Mrs. Olorisha alleged that she had received threats in November 2025 from some individuals over religious differences, as she practises traditional religion. The suspects were identified as Alhaji Salihu Saka, 63; Alhaji Abubakar Salihu, 58; and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele, 67. All three are currently in police custody and are assisting with the investigation. The police said no life was lost in the incident, as the building was unoccupied at the time. The value of the property destroyed is yet to be determined. The Kwara State Police Command assured the public that investigations are ongoing to arrest other suspects involved. The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property, and the rights of all residents, regardless of religious belief.
