AFCON 2025: Super Eagles hammers Mozambique 4–0, reach quarter-finals

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a dominant 4–0 victory over Mozambique on Monday night, according to Daily Post Nigeria.

The emphatic win confirmed Nigeria’s place in the last eight and marked a historic feat, as it is the first time the Super Eagles have won their opening four matches at the tournament. Nigeria topped Group C with maximum points, underlining their strong form in the competition.

The Super Eagles took control early in the match played in Fez, dictating play and putting Mozambique under sustained pressure. Ademola Lookman opened the scoring for Nigeria after a well-worked attacking move, giving the team an early advantage.

Lookman later turned provider, setting up Victor Osimhen to double Nigeria’s lead before halftime. The first half ended with Nigeria firmly in control, having limited Mozambique to few attacking opportunities.

Nigeria resumed the second half with the same intensity. Osimhen scored his second goal of the match shortly after the restart, once again benefiting from Lookman’s creative play. The third goal effectively ended any hopes of a comeback for the Mambas.

The Super Eagles continued to press forward, showing discipline and confidence across all lines. The fourth goal came when Akor Adams fired a powerful shot from inside the penalty area to complete the rout.

Mozambique struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and organisation and failed to mount a serious response throughout the match.

The result confirms Nigeria as one of the strongest teams in the tournament so far. Head coach Eric Chelle praised the players’ focus and teamwork after the game, while stressing the need for full concentration in the knockout stage.

Nigeria will now await the winner of the quarter-final tie between Burkina Faso and DR Congo as preparations begin for the next round of the competition.
