Religious leaders across Nigeria have commended the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede for his transparent handling of the technical glitch that affected the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
At a joint press conference in Abuja, prominent Islamic and Christian clerics praised Professor Oloyede’s exemplary leadership during the crisis.
Imam Fuad Adeyemi of Al Habibiyyah Islamic Society and Archbishop John Praise Daniel of Dominion Chapel described the JAMB registrar’s response as a model of accountability in public service.
“Professor Oloyede’s swift decision to offer affected candidates a free retake opportunity demonstrates his commitment to fairness,” Imam Adeyemi stated.
The religious leaders expressed sympathy for impacted students and parents while urging candidates to approach the retake with focus and determination.
The clerics particularly highlighted Professor Oloyede’s public apology as unprecedented in Nigeria’s governance landscape.
“In a nation where leaders often avoid admitting shortcomings, his humility sets a new standard for leadership,” Archbishop Daniel remarked.
Both leaders called for an independent investigation into the technical failure while commending JAMB’s transparency throughout the incident.
Reflecting on Professor Oloyede’s tenure since 2016, the religious leaders noted his transformative achievements, including remitting over ₦20.7 billion to government coffers a dramatic increase from previous administrations.
They also praised his technological innovations like the Central Admissions Processing System and his commitment to inclusivity through special provisions for candidates with disabilities.
“True leadership means taking responsibility during challenges,” Archbishop Daniel observed. “Professor Oloyede didn’t make excuses; he provided solutions.” The clerics concluded by offering prayers for the registrar’s continued success in reforming Nigeria’s tertiary education admission system, describing his approach as a beacon of hope for ethical governance in the country.
