By: Mercy Folounsho Nigerian students have been advised not to engage in anti-social behaviours, including internet fraud, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo,’ and other get-rich-quick syndrome. The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Offa, Engr. Kamoru Kadiri gave the advice yesterday during the 32nd Matriculation Ceremony of the institution held at the Polytechnic’s main campus in Offa. He urged the students to remain focused on their studies and avoid social vices such as cultism, cybercrime, and misconduct, stressing that the institution maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline. Engr. Kadiri also encouraged the newly intake students to make effective use of available academic resources, including libraries, laboratories, ICT centres, and e-learning facilities to perform optimally in their academic pursuit. The Rector who charged the students to participate actively in sports and other extracurricular activities, tasked the fresh students to uphold discipline, integrity, and academic excellence as the Polytechnic would not condone any act of indiscipline. He stated that the Polytechnic currently runs 34 National Diploma and 41 Higher National Diploma programmes, all fully accredited and supported by qualified lecturers as well as modern learning facilities. Describing the institution as one of the fastest-growing polytechnics in Nigeria and across Sub-Saharan Africa, Dr. Kadiri said that its guiding principle of “Skills, Knowledge and Industry” is strengthened through collaborations with over forty reputable organisations and agencies. On security, Dr. Kadiri advised students to be vigilant, avoid unnecessary late-night movements, and maintain regular communication with friends and relevant authorities when necessary. The matriculation oath was administered to the fresh students by the Polytechnic Legal Officer, Barrister Esther Abiodun Faremi officially confirming their status as bonafide students of Federal Polytechnic Offa. The ceremony was attended by principal officers of the institution, management staff, academic and non-academic staff, as well as parents and guardians, marking a memorable start to the academic journey of the 2025/2026 matriculating students.
